Since starting my career in fashion, at age 17 working retail, I have seen the industry shift various times. The traditional formula was shopping through physical retail channels which had its limitations. I had the privilege of a seeing the industry change before my eyes as e-commerce took the world by storm.
I watched as fast fashion companies became the top industry players and older companies struggled to adjust to the new way of appealing to consumers. I think every facet of the industry has a useful role. However, when only a handful of companies dominate an industry it causes an imbalance. Independent brands and small businesses have such an important role in the current climate of the fashion industry.
